Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania Receives $4,000 Grant from Community Foundation for the Alleghenies to Support Somerset Area School District

SOMERSET, Pa. (May 22, 2023) – Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania (CISPA) is delighted to announce that the nonprofit organization has received a generous grant of $4,000 from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. The grant, made possible through the Fund for the Future, will support essential services in Somerset Area School District, including individualized interventions, future planning and family assistance.

CISPA’s programming in Somerset Area School District is one of 66 projects that the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies has chosen to support during its Spring 2023 grant round. The public, nonprofit foundation announced a total of $181,916 in grants to organizations and initiatives in Bedford, Cambria, Indiana and Somerset counties.

CISPA is part of the national Communities in Schools network, which operates in 25 states and the District of Columbia and serves more than 1.8 million youth annually. Communities in Schools’ holistic approach addresses both the academic and nonacademic needs of students and recognizes that if basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter are not met, children are unable to learn.

By collaborating with Somerset Area School District at two school sites, Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania can identify students who are facing barriers to success and provide them with the necessary support to overcome these challenges. During the ’22-’23 school year, CISPA has provided 1,591 supports to 965 Somerset Area School District students.

“We are beyond thankful for the generous contribution from an esteemed organization like Community Foundation for the Alleghenies," said Will Webster, Communities in Schools of Pennsylvania’s Director of Southwestern Programs. "This funding will allow us to provide crucial support to students in the Somerset Area School District. By investing in education and empowering our youth, we are investing in a brighter future for our community."
